Advantages of using a Financial Adviser over online insurance

Tue April 5th 2016

We are bombarded nowadays with getting quotes here or saving money there. There are so many options and promises it is hard to make a clear decision.

What do we do when we need to compare options? Get online!?

The question many don't ask themselves is - am I really getting the best deal by going online, or should I be speaking to a Financial Adviser?

Buying direct online insurance

Online quotes may be the easiest route - You do it on your own time and you don't have to speak with anyone. Buying insurance direct is an extremely convenient way to go, and theoretically online insurance quotes are great. You get what you need without any hassle and sometimes with great rates.

Unfortunately, unless you are an expert in the insurance industry how do you know if you are getting exactly what you need?

It is great that technology has taken us to the point where we can explore prices and plans online, but usually leaves people under insured and scrambling to get the best price.

It is 100% understandable to want the best quotes for your insurance and doing it in a convenient way, but have you ever bought a new piece of technology and had to call their call centre with a problem? Every time it's a new person who has no idea who you are, what you need, why you even purchased the products and it's always a long irritating conversation. Do you want the same for your insurance every time you file a claim or need policy information?

Using a Financial Adviser

Financial Advisers have a longer process as they need to collect your information, form personalised recommendations, generate quotations from different companies and then present these options to you.

Putting your insurance in place with a Financial Adviser may not always be the most convenient option, but it may lead you to getting the best insurance for your needs.

Having a Financial Adviser is like having a Personal Insurance Consultant. They know your needs, they know the laws, and they generally know the products inside and out. They also know your situation first hand and can make appropriate suggestions which will benefit you best.

So, what's the best option?

If you are just browsing, it would be good to generate online quotes to get an idea of what you will be paying, however, it would not be advisable to purchase insurance directly online.

There's much more that goes into getting the best cover than just the price. Contacting a Financial Adviser will allow them to assess the situation to make sure 1) you are getting the proper coverage you need and 2) you are not paying for something you don't need.

When it comes to big investments like your home and your family's well-being, you want an expert on your side. Someone to help you make sense of what you're actually buying and who can ultimately be there with you through the claims process.

If you have set up an online insurance plan, feel free to contact us for a free, no obligation review of your cover.
