Why should we go through a Financial Adviser?

Tue Sept. 2nd 2014

I hear this a lot and it would be so easy for me to say "because we know more so you get more." But you don't just have to take my word for it. Let me be more specific about what you would get from me compared with buying your insurance online.

The right amount of insurance - not too much, not too little

Value cover that actually suits you, starts with really understanding you and your situation. I take the time to make sure you're not paying for insurance you don't need and are covered should the worst happen.

By buying online, you might select the inappropriate policies or ones that are way too expensive for what you need.

Personalised service

You get free ongoing support throughout the lifetime of your policy with us; I'm here to answer questions, review and update your situation, and to provide support should you need to make a claim. We won't wait for you to call us – if you prefer, we will be proactive and even call you to make sure things are up-to-date with your situation.

Online all you have is an 0800 number to someone who doesn't know you or understand your personal situation. It is all one way traffic - they expect you to call them if there's a problem.

I do the research for you

Because of my experience and knowledge of the industry, I can find products to match your specific needs - and most of the time this service is free to you. You get a package with tailor-made cover, and price options that suit you personally. I can also provide you with you a second opinion from another provider so you know you're making the right decision.

Online, all this work is up to you and without qualified knowledge and support you'd have to make your decisions cold.

Discounts and deals

You get better deals on your fees and premiums, terms and conditions through our industry connections.

Online there is no negotiation - one size fits all.

Understanding the fine print and application process

It's my job to understand the fine print and to make sure your application is completed properly to avoid snags at claim time. I make sure you completely understand what you're signing and what you'll get if you need to make a claim.

Online it's up to you to make sense of the details and decipher the fine print.

Support at claim time

It's when you need to make a claim, that you'll find me most valuable. Your wait time will be shorter - I work with the insurance company, your lawyer and other advisers to have your claim processed quickly and as seamlessly as possible. More than this, I'll go into bat for you if there's any grey area in the policy, or if you need an out-of-the-box solution.

Online when you make a claim, you have to cope by yourself with impersonal forms that have no understanding of what you might be going through and give no idea of how long it's going to take. Plus your claim could get lost and no one will know until you ask and you may have to start over.

Educating yourself about insurance products available in the market is a great place to start. But when it's time to make some decisions, come and talk to me first - I'll make sure you get the right cover, at the right price, and with far less hassle.
