Where Do I Start In The House Buying Process?

Wed Dec. 21st 2022

When you first start looking to buy a house, like a lot of people you may ask yourself… where do I start? There is a lot involved in the process of purchasing a property and there are several places that you can start.

We suggest starting with a budget, the search for a property can be so expansive (and expensive)! Discovering how much you can spend on a property and how much you want to spend on a property will give you a starting place so that you can start turning the dream of home ownership into a reality.

How much can I borrow?

This is the key question to working out what your top end budget is. We can help provide accurate calculations of your borrowing ability by completing a fact find process, and utilising inside information to see what all of the banks can and can’t lend you at any current point in time. This will largely depend on your income and expenses.

How much do I want to spend?

You do not necessarily need to spend all your available budget to purchase your new property, it is important that you take into account all of your current life situation and what you want your future to look like. For example, do you want to start a family, start a business, travel, or change jobs? Understanding this you can help create the appropriate room in your budget to get your dream home and ensure you still have room (financially) for the future. Buying your first home is expensive so there is often a trade off between now and the future. This is where advice can help.
